In May/June Dave is touring North Germany in a double bill with the German guitarist Hilke Billerbeck. The eight date tour is called 'Celtic Music:Classical Guitar' and reflects the fact that both performers will be performing traditional Irish music on classical nylon string guitars. Full tour dates can be seen on Dave's website here http://daveflynncomposer.weebly.com/events.html In Autumn 2012 Dave is taking part in a major new touring initiative which has been funded by the Arts Council of Ireland's Touring and Dissemination Scheme. The tour is entitled 'The Tune Makers' tour and it features Dave performing in a new trio with Liz Carroll and Mairtín O'Connor with special guest appearances by some of Ireland's leading composers and performers of traditional Irish music. Full details of the tour are still being finalised and will be announced in a future newsletter. Recording Plans Dave has a number of recording projects currently planned including a recording of his complete works for classical guitar which were published by Frisbee Publications in 2011. Dave is currently in pre-production for this record which he will be recording in his home studio in Clare. The album will feature guest performances by flautists Aisling Agnew and Eimear McGeown in works Dave has composed for flute and guitar. Dave is also returning to his roots as a singer-songwriter this year to record an album of songs he has co-written with the lyricist Padraic Ó'Beirn. Dave met Padraic through an IMRO songwriters convention in 2000 and this recording will mark over 10 years of songwriting collaborations between them. Dave has enlisted a fantastic band to perform with him on this record including Vyvienne Long (cello/vocals), Niwel Tsumbu (guitar/vocals), Aidan Dunphy (percussion) and Cion O'Callaghan (percussion). Between them the band have recorded and toured with many of Ireland's leading singer-songwriters including Declan O'Rourke, Damien Rice, Mundy and Paddy Casey. The band will be launching a Fund It campaign in the near future to raise funds for the album. The Enigma of Frank Ryan Dave recently attended the premiere of a new film by Des Bell called 'The Enigma of Frank Ryan' at the Jameson International Dublin Film Festival. This interesting docu-drama features excerpts from 'The Valley of the Lunatics', a piece Dave wrote for Caoimhín Ó Raghallaigh with the aid of a Deis Grant from the Arts Council of Ireland. Lecturing and Writing Dave's student days are officially behind him! He received his PhD in 2011 from the DIT for his composition-based thesis 'Traditional Irish Music:A Path to New Music' and following this he has been invited to do some lecturing and musicological writing. On April 19th Dave will visit Dundalk Institute of Technology to give a lecture about his compositions to students of the music course there. Dave has written an article based on part of his PhD research entitled 'The Uilleann Pipes in Contemporary Concert Music'. It is being published in 5 parts by Na Piobairí Uilleann in their newsletter An Píobaire. The first part has been published in the most recent edition. The editorial may be viewed here - http://www.pipers.ie/home/Resources_Piobaire.htm. To access the article you need to subscribe to the newsletter. Finally, Dave is currently guest lecturer in composition at the Conservatory of Music and Drama in Dublin where he is covering for Dr. Jane O'Leary who is on sick leave. Dave would like to take this opportunity to wish Jane the very best in her recovery. Here endeth the newsletter. Add Comment New Concert Dates for 2012 01/17/2012
