Programme Note
_
The Man from Maghera Rambles through Africa’, was written as a showpiece for the RTÉ Concert Orchestra to open the concert where Martin Hayes premiered the concerto Aontacht.
It is a small gesture of thanks from me to Martin for the inspirational music he has created with Dennis Cahill and for the great friendship and encouragement they have given to me.
_This is the first two sections of a proposed orchestral suite which imagines Martin leaving his homeland of Maghera to travel to Africa where he plays with various African musicians.
There are two connected movements ‘Martin’s Flight to Africa’ and ‘Hayes in Harare’.
